Swim Meet 101

A Parent Guide to Arbor Bridge Swim Meets

Location:  The Arbor Bridge pool is located at 4219 Arbor Club Dr, Marietta, 30066. Arbor Bridge is a 25-yard, 4 lane pool. We do not have diving blocks but dive starts are permitted in the deep end of the pool.

Away meet locations and pool information will be emailed to you on the day of the meet.

Parking:  Parking is limited to street parking. There are two visiting coordinator and one visiting head coach spots reserved at the front of our parking lot; the rest are first come - first serve.  There will be signs leading swimmers to the pool; please park on the right side of the street only.

Timing:  All meets begin at 6:00 pm. Home team warm-ups are 5:00 - 5:30 pm and away team warm-ups are 5:30 - 5:55 pm.  We ask swimmers to arrive by 4:45 pm for home meets and 5:00 pm for away meets.

Volunteers:  Volunteering is required by parents of all swimmers per registration, or the opt-out fee of $150 is collected.  ALL volunteers should check in with Katie Russo, our Volunteer Coordinator, by 5:30. The Cobb Summer Swim League referee will hold an on-deck meeting at approximately 5:30 pm. All timers, coordinators, coaches, place judges, announcers, and starters are expected to attend.  The second half volunteers start at event 47, anytime between 7:30 - 8:15.

Seating:  Seating at Arbor Bridge meets will be in the parking lot for all swimmers and their families; bring your own chairs. We will email details about away meets.

Concessions:  We will run a full concession stand throughout home meets. Hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, fruit, water, Gatorade, sodas, and yummy goodies are available. Concessions are cash or Venmo only. Please bring small bills!

What to Bring:  Goggles, sunscreen, team t-shirt, 2-3 towels, snacks and drinks in a cooler, printed heat sheet, Sharpie, folding camp chairs, and cash (or phone for Venmo) for concessions. Make sure all items are well labeled with your child's name.  Please remember to pack your patience!

What NOT to Bring:  Alcohol (can get us fined from the league and result in a forfeit of meet), speakers, anything valuable, and suits or caps with a high school or USA Swimming (year-round) team logo.

Heat Sheet:  The heat sheet is emailed to all parents the day of the meet. Please print this and bring it with you or have available to look at on your phone.

Swimmers:  Please write your swimmer's first initial and last name on his/her shoulder.  This will help coaches make sure swimmers are lined up where they should be.  It's hard to tell kids apart when they're wearing swim caps and goggles.

In order to keep track of your swimmer's races, write events, heats, and lanes on your child's arm or leg (so he/she can read it) with a Sharpie marker (see photo below for example).

Find your child’s event information on the Heat Sheet

(E = event, H = heat, L = lane, S = Stroke). For relays, add a column for position on team, ie. 1,2,3,4

If you have questions about how to read the heat sheet, an experienced swim team parent will be happy to help, just ask!

MEDLEY RELAYS
Medley Relay Order: Back, Breast, Butterfly Free For all relays 10 and under

10 & Under Medley relays:
Breast & Free legs line up at SHALLOW end
Back & Butterfly legs line up at DEEP end

10 & Under Freestyle relays:
Swimmer legs 1 & 3 - line up in DEEP end
Swimmer legs 2 & 4 - line up in SHALLOW end

Swimmers should line up several events ahead of their own. Please listen for the event numbers or check the event counter is you're uncertain. We cannot search for swimmers. If you miss an event (especially a relay) this affects our entire team.

Leaving the meet:  Please do not leave the swim meet without checking with the coaches; you may be needed to fill in for a missing or injured swimmer.  Help clean your area before leaving.  We want to represent Arbor Bridge well at the pools we visit.

Results:  Finishes in summer league meets are based on the order of finish as recorded by the place judges. There are four place judges watching each race finish (two on each side of the pool, two from each team and paired with opposing team). If there is a discrepancy in the results of the finish, the scorers send the form to the referee who confirms the order of finish. This is the reason you may see that your swimmer placed lower than expected when you look at the times listed on the results sheet. Ribbons with times and places are given to our swimmers the morning after each meet.

Most importantly HAVE FUN and ENJOY the day! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!
